What You Will Bring:

  • The ability to design the layout of electrical components and sensors within the tag.
  • The ability to diagnose mechanical failures, determine root cause, and provide solutions.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent or two to four years of related experience and/or training.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, CNC machining, various 3D printing methods, creating drawings and renders while understanding Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Understanding of basic mechanical engineering skills such as material sciences, fluid dynamics, and concepts of stress and strain.
  • Various technical skills including experience in Microsoft Office, mechanical engineering, processes, and documentation.
  • Various other skills like the ability to communicate and present information effectively, ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, and the ability to apply scientific thinking to a wide range of problems.

What You Will Do:

You will design and support all mechanical engineering aspects of Wildlife Computers’ tags from initial set up to product completion.

The details:

  • Optimize electrical and mechanical designs for tags, considering factors such as RF performance, animal behavior, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct failure analyses, create and execute test plans, perform risk assessments for engineered parts, and document test results and design decisions.
  • Develop 3D models, technical drawings, and renders using SolidWorks and its add-ins, applying GD&T principles for internal, customer, and vendor use while having a clear understanding of version control.
  • Design tooling and fixtures for 4-axis CNC machining and production testing, focusing on part longevity and process efficiency.
  • Utilize various 3D printing methods (FDM, SLS, SLA) for prototyping and apply mechanical engineering fundamentals in design processes.

As this is a hands-on position, there are physical demands surrounding it. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. You will need to:

  • Work in an environment where the noise level is moderate; however, occasional work is required near moving mechanical parts where the noise level is louder with dust, vibration, chemical exposure etc.
