SCOUT-NAV collects and transmits compass heading data along with Temperature Profiles, Empirical Cumulative Distribution Depth data, and GPS-quality locations.
Recording compass heading data throughout a deployment can improve animal movement models as it helps to give a sense of where the animal is headed between transmitted locations. Compass heading data can reveal track sinuosity by analyzing the direction between locations.
This compass heading data combined with depth ECD and high quality GPS locations provide a well rounded data set for a variety of applications, particularly those focused on migration behavior.
Data is accessible online in near-real time. Full archives are available if recovered.
