Mechanical Engineer

Build Technology That Helps Protect Wildlife
At Wildlife Computers, we design and manufacture satellite tags that help scientists understand and protect animals like whales, seals, sharks, and sea turtles. Since 1984, our technology has supported thousands of research projects worldwide and contributed to over 4,000 scientific publications.
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, turning ideas into real products, and wants their work to have a meaningful global impact. This is more than an engineering role — it’s a chance to help build technology that supports conservation and scientific discovery.
What You’ll Do
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the mechanical design of our products from concept through production, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life.
You will:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems and packaging for electronic instruments and sensors
  • Iterate and improve existing product designs based on field performance, manufacturability, and customer feedback
  • Diagnose mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
  • Design with manufacturing in mind (DFM), supporting both in-house and external production
  • Create and execute test plans, perform physical testing, and document results
  • Perform risk assessments on designs before and after release
  • Build 3D models, drawings, and renderings of complex parts and assemblies
  • Design parts for CNC machining using GD&T principles
  • Prototype designs using 3D printing methods (FDM, SLS, SLA)
  • Support resin casting design and related processes
  • Develop documentation, procedures, and fixturing to support manufacturing
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales teams
  • Occasionally work evenings or weekends to meet project timelines
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a curious, hands-on engineer who enjoys problem-solving and wants to contribute to products used in the field.
You bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 1–3 years of mechanical design experience
  • Experience supporting products from concept through production
  • Strong understanding of materials, mechanics, and design fundamentals
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly through documentation and collaboration
Bonus if you have:
  • Experience with SolidWorks add-ins (PDM, Routing, Weldments)
  • Familiarity with electronics packaging or electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience with testing, validation, or production support
Physical & Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based with regular interaction in a production environment.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment up to 25 lbs
  • Work in both office and manufacturing settings
  • Exposure to moderate noise and occasional production-related conditions
Pay & Benefits
the pay range for this position is $80,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Paid Time Off and Sick Leave
  • 9 paid holidays + two‑week year‑end break
  • Safe harbor 401(k)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • On-site fitness center
  • Optional life, long-term disability, and accident coverage
Why Wildlife Computers?
  • Work on technology that supports global conservation
  • Join a collaborative, mission-driven engineering team
  • Build products used by scientists around the world
  • Enjoy strong benefits and work-life balance
Apply today and help build technology that helps protect wildlife.
