10 Dec Quantifying Habitat Selection and Variability in Habitat Suitability for Juvenile White Sharks
The white shark is a complex apex predator. Scientists recently published research on quantifying movements and understanding juvenile white shark distribution. As I read through the paper, it seemed to me that juvenile white sharks were a lot like teenagers who dwell in the basement hiding from their bullies. Wildlife Computers SPOT tags were used on all (18) the sharks in the study with a subset of them receiving Wildlife Computers pop-up tags. Researchers found that warm temperate water temperatures, shallow depths and short distance to shore were all found to be important components of preferred juvenile white shark habitat.
