08 Apr The SPLASH10-F-427 Teenage Turtle Tag is No Mutant
Wildlife Computers is launching a new sea turtle tracker—SPLASH10-427. This mid-sized (teenage) tag is designed to fill the gap between the larger SPLASH10-385 for adult turtles and the smaller SPOT-375 for smaller turtles.
Wildlife Computers SPLASH tags are data-archiving, Argos satellite transmitting tags designed for tracking vertical and horizontal movements of free-range marine animals. SPLASH10 tags contain an array of sensors, including depth, temperature, wet/dry, and optional light level. During deployment, data are collected, summarized, and compressed for Argos transmission. The full archive is available upon tag recovery.
The SPLASH10-427 fills the gap between tags for larger and smaller turtles. This new tag is tailored for mid-sized (teenage) turtles, providing better size optimization and improved reliability. This new tag features enhanced antenna protection to reduce damage and increase longevity.
Key Features of the SPLASH10-427
- Optimal size for larger juvenile and sub-adult sea turtles
- Improved antenna protection for increased durability
- Raised wet/dry sensors for better data throughput.
- Fastloc® technology for GPS-quality locations during brief surfacing
The size, features, and durability of the SPLASH10-427 make it the ideal tool for studying smaller turtles and other species.
