Everyone agrees that long-term monitoring is needed to assess harbor seal counts but in certain areas of the world like tidewater glacier fjords, it proves difficult. A recent study worked to calibrate data between shore-based counts and aerial surveys to provide more precise population estimates of harbor seals.
