New Whale Shark Study

A new study by Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE), Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) and Tubbataha Management Office (TMO) tracked juvenile whale sharks across the Philippines. The Philippines is an important hotspot for whale sharks and hosts a large population.

A Wildlife Computers SPOT satellite tag was attached allowing scientists to track movements in near real-time to gain behavior insight. 17 sharks were tagged and showed the whale sharks stayed in the Philippines for the tracking period with one accumulating over 1500 miles.
