Satellite Tags Describe Movement and Diving Behaviour of Blue Sharks

Satellite tags describe movement and diving behaviour of blue sharks Prionace glauca in the southwest PacificPopulation management and conservation of the blue shark largely depended on bycatch and observer data. However, this study worked to expand the global understanding of the blue shark by correlating data from different satellite tag data. Most studies the researchers looked at used Wildlife Computers pop-up tags, SPOT tags, and SPLASH tags. Prior to this study, only 179 individual blue sharks had ever been tracked with dorsal fin-mounted satellite tags. This study added 15 more long-term, highly accurate tracks.
